Growing
up, I was exposed to many different aspects of entrepreneurship without even
knowing it. My mom started her own photography business when I was about to
enter high school, and she continued with the business until I graduated. Once
both my older sister and I came to the University of Florida, my mom decided to
move to Gainesville because it was closer to us and it was also where my
stepdad had his business. After she moved here, she quickly began investigating
jobs and things that she wanted to spend her time doing. My mom always cooked
dinner every night throughout my childhood, and she was fantastic at it! Some
nights she ended up feeding half the neighborhood- having four siblings, there
were always friends or guests over at my house. So, after coming to
Gainesville, she decided she wanted to open a snack shack, but the idea quickly
turned into opening a whole restaurant. She is the currently the owner of One
Love Cafe here in Gainesville and I got to experience her business journey with
her every step of the way since it opened last September. Working with her at
the restaurant, we have both learned a lot about business and I can't wait to
see what the future holds for my mom and her restaurant.
I enrolled in ENT 3003 because it seemed like an interesting elective to take that would be beneficial and helpful to me in my future career. I have always seen myself as a creative person, and entrepreneurship has always been something that I could see myself being involved in throughout my life. I am very excited about this class because it is all experiential, and I think that this is a much better way to learn and retain as opposed to reading passages out of a textbook and taking tests. I hope to learn about different entrepreneurs and how they got to where they are today, and I also hope to learn things about myself throughout this course.

Hi Jennie!
ReplyDeleteWow, you have a very cool story! It's so cool that your mom started a business doing what she loved and was good at, I think that is very admirable! I am in a very similar situation in that I experienced my mom starting up her own business as well. It really puts entrepreneurship in a new light watching it happen first hand!
